Our aim in the project

Our aim in this project is to give the students possibility to understand how the media work and how to deal with such a huge amount of information, regarding to experiences of young people from other European countries. Our increasingly diverse societies should cooperate to ensure interaction. The way to participate on this dialogue is using cooperation among schools, among youth. We are supposed to let the students know and understand that the difference among our cultures is the way how to find various possibilities to understand and achieve the aim of this project.

Denmark

Risingskolen is a public primary and secondary school located in the centre of Odense, which is the third biggest city of Denmark with just over 200.000 inhabitants. Our school has 800 pupils and around 110 staff members including teachers, pedagogues and administration. We follow the Danish curriculum throughout the school’s different grades and we have classes with pupils with special educational needs.
We follow a weekly schedule of different subjects during the day except for thursday, where every class only has one subject that they focus on. On these days the pupils and their teachers often use the community and the many cultural offers the nearby city centre gives us.
We have pupils with very different backgrounds both social and national, which we find as one of our school’s strengths since the pupils from a very young age learn how to be curious and meet people who are very different from themselves. Our pupils in 4th to 6th grade get a chromebook to use in school, and 7th to 9th grade are expected to bring their own device since most of the teaching is using different digital platforms. Our pupils are used to working with computers, tablets and phones and they are exposed to the media all the time. We try to teach them how to navigate in and use the media in cooperation with the parents.

Germany

Paul-Hey Mittelschule is a secondary school situated in Gauting, a small community just outside of Munich. About 30 teachers work with about 300 students from different cultural backgrounds between the age of 11 and 16. Our students can achieve a lower level exam after year 9 (granting access to further schooling or starting an apprenticeship) or a higher level exam after year 10 (granting access to further schooling such as college or starting an apprenticeship). We do have a class with students learning German as a foreign language and also have students with special needs and a special needs teacher. Focusing on preparing our students for the world of work students have to do internships and can specialize in subjects like ICT, social studies or crafts. As a foreign language we teach English.

Norway

Østerås is in Baerum kommune, located to the west of Oslo, the capital of Norway. We are close to the border of Oslo, and can easily reach the city center in 20 minutes by tube. Bærum is the fourth largest municipality in Norway. Even so, the area where we live is more like a suburb to Oslo. It is a nice and quiet area, with easy access to the forests and recreational areas.

Our school is a lower secondary school with 450 pupils and about 45 teachers and staff. Our school is well equipped, and all pupils have their own iPads and all classrooms have an appleTV. This is the standard for all schools in Bærum. Our school is facilitated to pupils with special needs. In Norway, all pupils from a specific area go to the same school.

We teach all the ordinary subject, and our pupils can choose between German, French and Spanish as the second foreign language. English is the one foreign language that everybody has to have. In addition, all pupils can choose one optional subject like programming, international relations, singing, dancing, wildlife etc.

Portugal

The Agrupamento de Escolas de Mortágua consists of three Teaching Institutions:

The Basic School of Mortágua, where Pre-School and First Cycle of Basic Education are taught.

The José Lopes de Oliveira Basic School where Second and Third Cycles of Basic Education are taught.

João Lopes de Morais Secondary School where Third Cycle of Basic Education, Secundary Education and Vocational Education are taught.

The number of teachers is about 110 distributed by different degrees of education (from pre-school to secondary).

Pre-school and the first cycle of Basic Education (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades) are taught on a one-to-one basis with one teacher per class.

The 2nd cycle of Basic Education (5th and 6th grades), the 3rd cycle of Basic Education (7th, 8th and 9th grades) and Secondary Education (10th, 11th and 12th grades) have one teacher per discipline.

As a whole, the teachers of each class constitute their respective Class Council. Each teacher has several classes from different grades.

About 900 students attend the different levels of education distributed in the following way (approximate numbers):

110 in Pre-school Education (3 to 6 years);

570 in Basic Education (1st cycle with pupils aged 6 to 10 years, 2nd cycle, 10 to 12 years and 3rd cycle, 12 to 14/15 years);

220 in Secondary Education (15 to 18 years) of which about 40 are in Vocational Education.

Slovakia

Pavol Marcely School is a state primary and secondary school focusing primarily on the development of our pupils‘ knowledge of the natural environment, IT and languages. Our school is located in the city centre.

There is a large sports and recreation area surrounding the school where pupils can play volleyball or football. There is also a small lake situated beside the school buildings. All classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art information technology, which considerably helps our students and teachers.

Pupils have opportunities to follow courses in several languages, as well as in information technology and computing skills.

The school has 775 students and 72 employees. The school has been in many different volunteering projects including environmental cleaning, collecting rubbish and recycling, helping children in hospitals, helping orphans, helping sick and homeless people, sheltering sick and abandoned animals.

Slovenia

Our primary school lies on the edge of Dolenjske Toplice, a city with tourist activities.
Overlooking the school is a forest.
Educational system in municipality of Dolenjske Toplice began in 1841. The building where the school is situated at the moment, however, was built in school year 1973/74.
In school year 2019/2020 there are 349 students in school, and about 60 employees. Beside the school there is also a kindergarten.
In school, students learn various subjects that change during the course of schooling, but they always have maths, Slovene (mother tongue), music, art, PE. In lessons are also included sports days, cultural days, technical days that are intended for supplementary activities from those areas. For students with greater learning capabilities there are organized additional lessons from various subjects, and for the weaker there are remedial classes.
Pupils are from 1st to 9th class.
In 7th, 8th and 9th grade at maths, Slovene and foreign language students are divided into groups according to knowledge, which is called mixed abilities classes.
In addition to regular classes, students are being creative at various extracurricular activities.
Students are achieving very good results in sports as well as in competitions in knowledge from individual subjects.
We have computers in our classrooms at our school, a computer classroom, interactive whiteboards.
